A dreamy early fall wedding with mountain views, golden light, and a little touch of magic
There are some venues that just sit on your wish list for the longest time. And for me, Cochrane Ranch House was one of them, so getting to photograph Brogen and Eric’s wedding here felt extra special.
This venue is truly gorgeous, and it absolutely did not disappoint.
Brogen & Eric’s day started quietly in Cochrane, with getting-ready moments that felt calm, intentional, and full of anticipation. I always love this part of a wedding day. The energy is slower and more intimate. It gives space to really soak in what’s about to unfold.

From there, we headed into their first look. They chose to keep it private, set against the most beautiful lookout views. It was one of those bright Alberta days, but there was a bit of smoke in the air, which made for a cool effect with the mountains and the view.

Brogen and Eric they had their ceremony outdoors, which was amazing. After such a rainy summer, we were all crossing our fingers for good weather, and it couldn’t have turned out more perfectly. (And a little insider tip- if you’re planning a Calgary-area wedding, late August to early September tends to be one of the most reliable windows for beautiful weather.)
One thing I always remind couples: even with the best forecasts, having a solid rain plan matters. Cochrane Ranch House absolutely shines here. They have a stunning indoor ceremony space completely separate from the reception area, meaning no room flips, no timeline stress, and just a seamless backup option if needed.

The Venue: Cochrane Ranch House
Cochrane Ranch House is truly a guest favourite for a reason. With both indoor and outdoor ceremony options, flexible cocktail hour spaces, and a spacious reception area, it allows for a seamless flow throughout the entire day.
Beyond that, the surrounding landscape is stunning. You can hike down into the wooded areas for a completely different backdrop. It’s one of those venues that gives you variety without ever needing to leave.
After their ceremony, we wrapped up portraits so Brogen and Eric could fully enjoy cocktail hour with their favourite people, which is always something I encourage. Your wedding day goes by fast, and those moments connecting with friends and family matter.

One of my favourite personal touches from the day? Brogen is a huge Harry Potter fan, so there were Hogwarts-themed decorations throughout the whole day. But during portraits we wanted to day We visited the iconic tree on the property—which sadly had fallen earlier this year—but even the exposed roots brought such a moody, magical feel. It honestly still felt like something straight out of Hogwarts.

And then… it was time for the reception!
Instead of a traditional plated dinner, they went with gourmet burgers, and honestly? It was such a hit.
As the sun started to dip, we snuck away for golden hour portraits. It ended up being a pretty hot day, so it made for gorgeous golden hour photos as it was slightly hazy. Brogen and Eric dancing danced the night away with all their family and friends!
