When Andy first reached out, I already knew him through a mutual friend. He and his now-wife, Tania, live in Spain, and they asked me to come capture their wedding. Naturally, I was super pumped, not only because I got to hop on a plane to Spain, but also because it was during the off-season here in Canada. That meant I wouldn’t have to miss any epic mountain weddings back home.
Their wedding day began at the property where they live. Tania got ready in the beach house and pool house, while Andy got ready in his childhood home. Andy wasn’t the biggest fan of being in front of a camera, but I have a way of keeping things light and low-pressure, letting the day unfold naturally, while still giving just enough direction so the photos look beautiful and not stiff. My main goal is always for couples to live their wedding day, not feel like they’re stuck in a photoshoot. By the end, Andy told me I may have changed his mind about photos… and that he even kind of enjoyed them!
One of my favourite moments was Tania’s first look with her dad. Fun fact: Tania didn’t speak English, and neither did her dad, and I don’t speak Spanish. Coordinating that first look was a challenge, but somehow it went perfectly. Turns out, taking photos really is a universal language.
The ceremony was held in a gorgeous church which, to them, was “just a regular church in Spain.” (Meanwhile, I was in awe… but I guess that’s Europe for you.) After the “I dos,” we spent an hour exploring the church gardens for portraits, then headed to their outdoor cocktail hour where they made a grand entrance, shared heartfelt speeches, and embraced Spanish wedding traditions.

We squeezed in some bridal party photos, and then Tania and Andy took a photo with every single guest. The reception was full of games, thoughtful details, and the most incredible party atmosphere. The drinks were strong, the dancing was wild, and we ended the night with a mariachi band under the stars. Tania and Andy’s wedding was such a blast to photograph and I learned I absolutely love Editing European Weddings. It was everything you’d hope for in a destination wedding and more.
Looking at a destination wedding?
European weddings are such a dream to photograph — the colours, the architecture, the scenery. If you’re planning an international wedding between October and April, I’m more than happy to travel for the cost of the trip.
I also travel to Ottawa for the cost of the trip between October and April, and weddings in Kelowna are 50% off all year round (I’m originally from there, so I get to stay with my grandma while I shoot your big day).
